Rope for the Crown

Over the last few years the Heartland Rodeo Association has reserved a spot in the Rope for The Crown Finals.  Our top points earner in breakaway roping has receive this spot to compete in Las Vegas.  See what our members are sharing about their experiences of attending.

Dana Gardiner - On Dec 8 & 9, 2023 I participated in Rope for The Crown in Las Vegas which I qualified for through HRA. The two days included a pre-roping/last chance qualifier, a back number ceremony with Jackie Crawford and the Rope for the Crown finals at The Plaza Casino & Arena.

This was an amazing opportunity for someone from small town Manitoba to be able to attend, and the experience was definitely unique. The scenery along the drive was beautiful, especially in Montana & Utah. My horse’s stall and the arena were located a block from the corner of Main Street and Fremont, two of the most famous streets in Vegas, surrounded by towering casinos and hotels. With the NFR, World Series Team Roping, and Cowboy Christmas  all on, there was lots to see and do.

It was fun to rope against the best ladies in the sport including many World Champions. Meeting some of the top women in breakaway that grew it to what it is today was inspiring. I highly suggest that anyone who has a love for breakaway roping and rodeo take the opportunity to attend if they have the chance!

Shyla Fuchs - “I got the privilege to head down to Rope for the Crown in 2022 and it was an experience I will remember forever. Along with the Rope for the Crown competition I was able to participate in the warm up roping the day prior to Rope for the Crown and the All in Breakaway Roping  in the week I spent down there. Cowboy Christmas was a very neat place to go, watching the NFR in the evenings at the hotels, along with some of the other attractions Vegas has to offer.

What I found very exciting was the level of competitors that were at Rope for the Crown, the back number ceremony and the set up of the arena compared to our set ups in Manitoba that I have attended. The experience made me wish that I could attend every year."
